From seed to packaged plant
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been finalising the first version of the hydroponic production machineries that your workers will use to package the food you’ve grown. They’re a vital part of the gameplay as you won’t be able to sell anything until it’s properly packaged, so we wanted to get them functioning smoothly.
Since it’s an essential feature of Roboplant, we thought we’d say a quick word about hydroponics in case you don’t know. In a nutshell, hydroponic farming allows you to grow plants without soil, using a growing medium to support the roots and a nutrient solution to promote healthy growth. There’s a little more to it than this, but that’s all you need to know for now!
Ok, back to dev chat!
At the start of the game, the machinery will be quite remedial, which means more effort from your workers to use it, but as the game progresses, you’ll be able to research better tech and automate more of the process.
Everything starts from the seeder. When you’ve chosen what you want to grow, your workers will deliver the medium, fertiliser and seeds. They’ll prepare the area and plant the seeds. Then you get to watch the magic happen as your first seedlings start to sprout.

When your seedlings are strong enough it’s time to move them to the planter. Each planter has its own pros and cons and can only grow specific plants, so you’ll need to choose carefully so you don’t spoil your crop. Once the plants mature and bear the fruits (and vegetables) of your labour, they’re ready for harvest.

After harvest it’s time for the final phase: packaging. This is a very labour-intensive part of the process to begin with, so you’ll probably be keen to upgrade your machinery as soon as you can! But once it’s done, your produce is neatly packaged and ready for market. Hooray!

We’re pretty pleased to have the design and animation of the packaging machines ready now. It means we can move on to the next design stage of making the individual rooms look more unique with various interior décor features.
